Open Review

Help Improve the Global Heat Flow Data Portal

heatflow.world is now live — but this is just the beginning.

As part of the continued development of this global research data infrastructure, we invite all users, contributors, and stakeholders to participate in an open online review. Your feedback will directly shape how the portal evolves in the coming years. The review period is between 22 July and 22 Aug 2025 and will build the foundation of an in-person stakeholder workshop during the IAGA/IASPEI Assembly in Lisbon, Portugal.

What We’re Looking For

We welcome feedback on all aspects of the portal, including:

  •    Functionality
Are core features (e.g., filtering, download, citation) intuitive and effective?
  • Technical Interface
Does the layout support your workflow? Are there usability issues or performance bottlenecks?
  • Metadata & Quality Assessment
Is the available metadata sufficient for your research use cases? Are the quality indicators useful?
  • Missing Features
Are there specific tools, data types, or formats you would like to see added?
  • Integration Needs
Would you like API access or compatibility with other platforms? Do you use modeling or GIS software that could benefit from better integration?

Why Your Input Matters

The Global Heat Flow Data Portal is designed as a long-term, FAIR-compliant research infrastructure. Your input will help:

  • Prioritize new development tasks
  • Improve usability for diverse scientific disciplines
  • Enhance data transparency and interoperability
  • Guide the integration of additional datasets (e.g., thermal properties, subsurface temperatures, marine heat flow, models)

Why Do We Use GitHub?

We use GitHub for structured feedback during the open review phase of heatflow.world. It offers a transparent, organized, and collaborative way to track reported issues, feature requests, and your suggestions for improvements. It allows you to report bugs, suggest enhancements, and discuss ideas in an open environment where our developers and contributors can respond, prioritize, and document the progress. With version control, tagging, and threaded discussions, GitHub ensures that your feedback is not lost in email chains and provides a clear roadmap for ongoing development..
