Citing the Data Definition, Metadata and Quality Schema

The GHFDB metadata schema defines the structure and essential attributes of heat flow data and the quality code used by the IHFC. If you reference or implement the schema in your research or database, please cite it as follows:

Citing the data template

  • coming soon - the doi publication is in preparation

(until further notice we recommend to cite the above paper)

Citing the Data Portal Code and Software

The Global Heat Flow Data Research Infrastructure and its underlying open-source software support data management, visualization, and API access. If you use portal source code or integrate components into your projects, please cite the repository accordingly.

Jennings, Sam; Ott, Nikolas, Frenzel, Simone; Mäs, Stephan; Elger, Kirsten, Fuchs, Sven (2025). Global Heat Flow Data Research Infrastructure Codebase, Version [X.X]. GFZ Data Services. Available at [https://github.com/ihfc-iugg/ghfdb-portal (application, https://github.com/ihfc-iugg (code base)] (DOI: registration in progress).

Citing Code Snippets from Code Library

If you use Python scripts, API code snippets, or other open-source tools from our Code Library, please cite the respective GitHub repository or code archive and follow their recommendations.

Why Citation Matters

✔ Recognizes the efforts of data curators, developers, and contributors.

✔ Ensures reproducibility in scientific studies.

✔ Improves data visibility and traceability across research disciplines.

✔ Supports continued funding and maintenance of open-access geoscience resources.
